Summary

The Alkek Center for Metagenomics and Microbiome Research at Baylor College of Medicine is looking for a driven, experienced Research Associate to join its new research development team focused on elucidating the complex relationship between the microbiome and host immunity. The Research Associate will be responsible for management of funded collaborative projects, that includes but not limited to data analysis and interpretation, ensuring compliance with data sharing policies, and grant application writing support.  This is a dry lab position; no benchwork is required.  The Research Associate will have a background in microbiology, preferably with an understanding of host-microbe cross-talk, and have experience working with microbiome datasets.  Proficiency with data analysis and visualization programs such as R is a must.  Will handle many moving parts, and excellent organizational and communication skills are critical.  The Research Associate will perform duties under the general direction of the Principal Investigator.  


Job Duties
  • Evaluates and analyzes data, applying new tools as required for specific research projects.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Schedules and coordinates project-specific activities (e.g., sample shipment, data transfer, etc.).
  • May assist with grant application preparation or other project management tasks as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field.  Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
  • Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in microbiology, preferably with an understanding of host-microbe cross-talk, and have experience working with microbiome datasets.  
  • Proficiency with data analysis and visualization programs such as R is a must. 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills are critical.
