Summary

The Research Associate will perform independent research on the pediatric brain tumor medulloblastoma.  The Research Associate will have extensive experience with mouse genetics, stereotactic mouse surgeries and tissue dissections, mammalian cell culture, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry and scRNA-seq analysis with R. The Research Associate  will be able to guide and supervise the work of other staff and trainees in the lab. Research Associate must have a solid knowledge of the biological principles driving medulloblastoma, and proven experience with implementation of the techniques listed above.  In addition, the individual will also be provided opportunities to review papers and grants for journals and funding organizations as applicable. 


Job Duties
  • Plans, directs and conducts cell culture and molecular research experiments in vivo and in vitro.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
  • Optimizes protocols for the lab and implements new technologies for specific research projects.
  • Trains others in the lab on these new technologies and create written protocols for lab manuals.
  • Represents the lab at national and international scientific meetings. 
  • Integrates results from cell culture and molecular experiments to further generate hypotheses that will be tested functionally using a variety of assays both in vitro and in vivo (mice).
  • Works extensively on manuscript/grant drafts, figures and cover letters for submission to journals.
  • Edits drafts of papers/reports coming from less experienced trainees.
  • Assists with grant and manuscript writing.
  • Guides and supervises the work of other staff and trainees in the lab.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field.  Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
  • Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in related discipline.
  • Five years of  postdoctoral experience. 
  • Experience with mouse genetics, stereotactic mouse surgeries and tissue dissections, mammalian cell culture, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry and scRNA-seq analysis with R.
  • Has solid knowledge of the biological principles driving medulloblastoma, and proven experience with implementation of the techniques listed above.
  • Has ability to learn and implement new techniques as required by the research question. 
  • Experience with cell culture, cutting edge molecular techniques and animal handling is a desired.
  • Adaptable, able to work in a team environment, self-driven and guided by strong work ethic.
