Summary of Duties

Position will involve facilitating the implementation of a study, including recruiting and enrolling participants and conducting interviews. The position will also involve coordinating with local governmental, law enforcement, and health care agencies.

Essential duties will include:
-Supervision of assigned research staff
-Contacts participants who are involved in an ongoing study on opioid use to remind them of their study appointments, and
schedule phone-based data collection when person lives outside of the area. Contacts participants by phone, text message, mail,
email, and social media, as well as home visits (when appropriate). Reviews jail logs weekly to identify when a participant has
been incarcerated so that study staff can schedule a jail visit. Reviews local obituaries to identify if a participant is deceased.
Works closely with staff of other projects to ensure data quality and accurate record keeping and participant follow-up.
-Maintains detailed records about contact with participants and about participant contact information in secure databases. Enters
data into secure databases and provides weekly and/or monthly reports to study team about participant retention. Maintains
detailed financial records for incentives owed and paid to participants. Submits financial reports to Ohio State Unviersity College of
Public Health business office staff.
-Trains participants in the study to encourage their peers to attend follow-up appointments using training guidelines and a training
video developed by the study investigators. Tracks peer retention and provides cash incentives to participants who successfully
encourage their peers’ retention in the study. Talks with participants by phone or in person every three months to answer
questions about peer retention strategies and remind participants of their peers’ appointment date and contact information. Works
closely with the study’s Principal Investigators to assure data quality and protection of human subjects.
-Conducts in-person qualitative interviews and surveys with people who use opioids to ask them about factors that may impact their
retention in research studies and their preferences about the design of future clinical trials in their community; works closely with
the study’s Principal Investigators to assure data quality and protection of human subjects.

A candidate must display the possible criteria:
- Have a BA or MPH
- Must be willing to reside in Jackson, Pike, and Scioto Counties.
- Qualitative and/or survey interviewer experience is preferred, but not required.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal/communication skills.
- Willingness to travel locally.
- Has initiative, independence, and flexibility.
- Ability to put together reports and presentations for co-PIs.
- Ability to hold meetings for multiple local organizations, including County Health Departments.
- Openness and comfort with working with health organizations, law enforcement organizations and people who use drugs.

Required Qualifications

A master’s degree in a health science/social science or an equivalent combination of education and experience; experience instructing assistants or research aides in laboratory/research procedures and techniques.

Desired Qualifications

A Master of Public Health (MPH) or related social science degree is desired, but it is not a requirement.
