Essential Functions (Job Duties)
This position is responsible for maintaining the laboratory, including ordering reagents, making solutions, running and assisting with research projects involving transgenic animal maintenance, studies on microRNAs in the biology of the eyes and ocular diseases, including ocular infectious disease, diabetic retinopathy, and inherited retinal degeneration, using techniques of molecular biology and genetics, cell biology and immunology.
Principle Duty and Responsibilities:
Perform and/or assist in experiment procedures; optimizing experimental protocols
Maintain appropriate amount and kinds of supplies, ordering when needed;
Maintain laboratory equipment, responsible for minor repairs and coordinating repairs or equipment replacement;
Animal (mostly mice) maintenance, including genotyping and basic animal procedures;
Keep manuals and protocols in good order;
Prepare solutions for experiments;
Collect experimental data, perform basic data analysis and report results to supervisor and in lab meetings
Perform basic microscopy and capture images.
Unique Duties
Qualifications
A bachelor degree in biology or life sciences is required.
Knowledge and skills required:
Basic knowledge and techniques in cell biology, e.g. cell culture, immunohistochemistry, Western blot, in situ hybridization;
Basic knowledge and technique in molecular biology, e.g. DNA, RNA isolation, PCR, RT-PCR;
Basic knowledge and skills in microscopy;
Basic computer skills, including word processing, excel, power point, photoshop, internet browsing;
Good communication and organization skills.
Preferred Qualifications
A master degree in biology or life sciences is preferred. Previous research experiences in animal research, ocular research, and molecular and cellular biology research are preferred. Highly motivated candidates who have passion in medical research to advance their careers are encouraged to apply.
