Job Description


Full-time research assistants are being sought for the labs of Dr. Fred Wu located at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion in Roanoke, VA. The Wu Lab is a translational research laboratory that is focused on ultrasound technology for pediatric and adult brain tumors.

The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable working with a diverse population. Experience working in a research laboratory is helpful but not mandatory. Fundamental knowledge and an interest in radiological or oncological research are required. A few techniques we use include intracranial injection, intraperitoneal injection, intravenous injection, and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. Knowledge in basic computer skills, record keeping and experience with data collection is required. This position also requires initiating and maintaining IRB applications, storing and filing electronic and paper data as well some basic data analysis and presentation. Some familiarity with the above techniques is a plus. There is opportunity for the candidate to participate in research publication and attendance at national scientific conferences if able and appropriate. The successful applicant will also be expected to participate in lab meetings, analyze data, and assist in the preparation of figures for peer-reviewed publication and presentations. • Prior experience working in a professional research environment.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and team skills

• Ability to organize and analyze experimental data.
• Demonstrated ability to follow protocols.

• Degree or coursework in health science, neuroscience, psychology, or related field.
• Demonstrated working experience in an academic or research setting.
