Department Description

The UNC Center for Health Equity Research is a vibrant intellectual home for health equity research and innovation at UNC-Chapel Hill and aims to global recognition of its role as a leader in the field. The work of the Center will bring together scholars, trainees and community members from diverse disciplines to form collaborative multidisciplinary teams with a shared commitment to health equity, innovation and translational research; this shared commitment will serve as a bridge among their disciplines and levels of experience. Center members will generate new knowledge and contribute to the science of health equity research thus driving innovation in collaboration with underserved communities to improve health.

The hired candidate will join the Re-Envisioning Health and Justice Lab, a rapidly growing interdisciplinary team nested within CHER and led by Dr. Lauren Brinkley-Rubinstein. Though the lab houses many diverse, large-scale studies, the research centers on understanding and mitigating the impact of mass incarceration on social determinants of health for justice-involved individuals.

Position Description

The hired candidate will contribute to an on-going, multi-site research study, which focuses on HIV prevention among persons leaving incarceration. The purpose of this position is to assist the Principal Investigator and project coordinator in the preparation of research and training materials, IRB preparation and submission, data collection and analysis. The hired candidate will participate in on-going recruitment and retention efforts, as well as quantitative and qualitative data collection activities. This position will work with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Candidates must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Professionalism/maturity/experience is expected in working with people from a variety of different backgrounds/cultures.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer candidates will have experience working with persons impacted by the criminal justice system.
