Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
UNC Center for Health Equity Research is a vibrant intellectual home for health equity research and innovation at UNC-Chapel Hill and aims for global recognition of its role as a leader in the field. The work of the Center will bring together collaborative, multidisciplinary teams of stakeholders to improve health in North Carolina communities with a shared commitment to innovation, collaboration and health equity.. This shared commitment will serve as a bridge among their disciplines and levels of experience. Center members generate new knowledge and contribute to the science of health equity research thus driving innovation in collaboration with underserved communities to improve health.
This position will support a portfolio of NIH-funded research projects using community-partnered approaches to reduce cardiovascular disease disparities in rural Eastern North Carolina.
The Center for Health Equity Research is located at the UNC Department of Social Medicine in the School of Medicine.

Position Summary
THIS IS A TIME-LIMITED POSITION WITH AN ESTIMATED DURATION OF 3 YEARS. This position will be housed within the UNC Center for Health Equity Research and will work directly with Research team staff, the directors, and external stakeholders. They will be responsible for providing research and/or evaluation support for the day-to-day activities of funded programs and projects under the purview of the Center. The purpose of this position is to assist the research team in the development and preparation of research materials and protocols, administrative duties, and IRB preparation and submission.
The hired candidate will be responsible for implementing research activities on multiple aspects of research studies in the Director and Associate Director’s portfolio in assistance with the Project Coordinator and other research staff, including: research administration, task and milestone reporting, data compilation and visualization; preparation of applications and modifications to the Institutional Review Board; preparing and submitting progress and data reports; communicating with the research team and community research partners; subject recruitment and enrollment; and data collection, management, analysis, and report development; and survey development and administration. In this position, the successful candidate will not only be required to work with diverse research teams, but also be able to work independently on tasks assigned to them.
This hired candidate will manage the complex data collection schedule of all researchers on the team to ensure all project goals are met by protocol deadlines. The hired candidate will coordinate, collect, and analyze data and provide feedback and guidance on protocol development and reports. As assigned, the candidate will independently conduct literature searches and synthesis; summarize data to organize and prepare reports and presentations; and provide recommendations on and contribute to manuscripts.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Because this position involves working on multiple projects, excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to consistently follow through and follow up with assignments of others are critical.
Strong organizational skills
Strong research and analytical skills
Knowledge of study design, data management and project coordination
Knowledge of fundamental concepts of collecting and processing research data
MS Office suite experience required.
Ability to clearly, concisely, professionally, and effectively communicate in writing and verbally with staff, faculty, and individuals in other organizations, including report writing, publications, and presentations.
Ability to work independently, identify needs and develop and implement improvements
Qualitative or quantitative data analysis experience required, including using associated software (e.g. NVivo, Atlas.ti, SPSS, SAS, STATA, R, REDCap, etc.).
Meticulous and detail-oriented, able to understand the structure and constraints of different kinds of data and conduct data collection plans, database/data management plans, and analyses accordingly.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Master of Public Health or equivalent degree preferred. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Experience working across multiple projects and full lifespan of projects (grant writing through dissemination of findings)
Experience building relationships with stakeholders that represent varied interests (grant funders, community-based partners, etc.).
Experience in implementation science, cross-disciplinary teams, clinical trials, community-or stakeholder-engaged research, and/or health equity research.
