Position Information


Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Highway Safety Research Center (HSRC), founded by the North Carolina State Legislature in 1965, works to reduce deaths and injuries on North Carolina’s roads and the entire nation. The Center advances these goals across all surface transportation modes through a balanced, interdisciplinary program of research, evaluation, information dissemination, and training. HSRC works with communities and transportation professionals locally, nationally, and worldwide. We are a leader in the field of transportation research, embrace a safe systems approach, and are focused on safety for all.
Position Summary
This position is for a temporary, full or part time Research Assistant position that will provide subject matter expertise and project support for an ongoing research study related to novice/teen driving. The position will be responsible for performing a literature review and assisting in report writing on topics related to novice driver crash risks, graduated driver licensing, novice driver education, training, and parent support, and vulnerable populations. This position will work closely with Center team members to accomplish work and meet project deadlines. HSRC is looking for candidates with advanced knowledge of novice driver literature, and familiarity with online search and literature review processes and tools.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Must be able to assist with literature reviews and synthesizing research, including screening, reviewing, critiquing, and synthesizing technical studies related to novice drivers. Must demonstrate strong professional/technical writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science, public health, psychology, education, library science or related field preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience with citation management systems such as SciWheel.
