Job Description Summary:
Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical, biological and other research laboratory tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data for research purposes; compile, analyze, document and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results. Confer with principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments; make minor modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the particular equipment as required. Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments. Assist with research-related tasks involved with the utilization of mice, organ harvest, ovariectomy, tissue embedding, tissue sectioning and cell culture work. This project will examine the development and regulation of ovarian follicles using rodent models. Assist in the management of laboratory operations, ordering and quality control.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in molecular biology or closely related field
  • Work Experience: 0-1 years of experience in work field
  • Skills: Strong work ethic, effective communication skills and desire to learn. Previous experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Previous experience with lab management, supply ordering, and supply management. Previous experience with animal (rat or mouse) surgery, specifically ovariectomy, organ/tissue isolation, and tissue sectioning of frozen and fresh embedded tissue.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in molecular biology or closely related field
  • Work Experience: 1-2 years of experience in work field
  • Skills: Experience with qRT-PCR, PCR, electrophoresis, protein isolation, Western analysis, genotyping, animal surgery, and animal dissection, as well as use of dissecting microscope and experience with digital image capturing, follicle counting, cell and tissue culture.


Job Duties Outlined:

  • Work in conjunction with other members of the laboratory and research group to maintain day to day operation of laboratory, including maintaining laboratory inventory and ordering of supplies.

  • Prepare tissue sections for both frozen and freshly embedded tissue sections for histology, immunohistochemical localization and in-situ hybridization as well as probe preparation.

  • Perform experiments to isolate DNA, RNA, and protein and perform PCR, qRT-PCR, and Western analysis.

  • Perform cell isolation/cell culture, cell transfection, and cell proliferation assays.

  • Prepare summary of research experiments in format suitable for publication/presentation. Prepare figures, graphs, photographs, etc. with relevant research data.

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
