Summary of Job Duties:

The Center for the Study of Tobacco is seeking a full-time (100% FTE) Research Assistant to work on research projects that aim to reduce health disparities in rural communities. The Research Assistant will assist the Investigator team on all aspects of community-based studies that focus on reducing cancer, cardiovascular disease, and COVID-19 disparities.
The duties will include using best practices to develop health education materials and campaigns; working with community members to build infrastructure to support the elimination of health disparities; developing survey tools; developing trainings and research protocols; working with teams to develop scientific presentations and manuscripts; entering and tracking data; administering surveys through the use of online programs (e.g. RedCAP); conducting qualitative and quantitative data analysis; assist with process tracking implementation; maintaining accurate records; assisting with the quality control and integrity of the data; conducting systematic searches on the Internet and via PubMed; and other duties as assigned. The Research Assistant must be willing and available to travel to rural counties and work with community partners. This is a grant funded position.

Qualifications:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works under supervision of Principal Investigator and Project Manager to prepare develop, implement, and evaluation health education and communications campaigns.
  • Works with team to develop surveys, trainings, and protocols to support research projects.
  • Support team in data entry, development of tables, and literature reviews that inform presentations, papers, and research projects.
  • Participates in regular project meetings, trainings, provides updates on progress, and communicates regularly with study team.
  • Works with study team to develop and implement secure systems for assuring the quality, confidentiality, and safety of the data and work with data manager to maintain appropriate study logs, records, and databases.
  • Work with study team to problem-solve issues, develop appropriate solutions, report progress, and assist study team when needed. 
  • Other duties may be assigned to this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education, general: Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years of research experience
  • Education, special or professional: Completed undergraduate degree and master’s level courses in public health or related field
  • Licenses, certificates, or registration: Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Special knowledge, abilities and skills: Experience in working on community-based intervention studies. Experience in developing PowerPoint and other scientific presentations. Use of REDCap, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders; ability to work in a team and independently; highly motivated; creative; critical thinking; resourceful; responsible; accountable; collaborative; and problem-solving skills.   Must be willing to learn how to analyze data.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education, general: MPH or completion of course requirements
  • Education, special or professional: Experience working on community-based research projects.
