This position will assist with lab administration to support research and other academic endeavors by effectively utilizing resource allocation and planning for the lab. The research assistant is responsible for ordering research materials, maintaining safety protocols and handling other administrative and operational needs in support of the lab. Performs other related duties as assigned, which include but are not limited to assisting with patient recruitment, data collection, data management and analysis, budgets, presentation material development, report writing, and tracking manuscript submissions to peer-review journals. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the manager from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. The lab has two primary studies, The Black Men’s Brain Health and Aging Study and The Black Male Caregiver Burden Study. The research assistant should be interested in contributing to research that expands to the science of brain health through enhanced understanding of sport concussions and/or dementia care giving burden and physiological and psychological stress among Black American men. The position also includes administrative duties.
Responsibilities:
  • Works closely with the principal investigator (PI) and research team leads
  • Coordinating outreach with study participants for all aspects of study and team members across multiple study sites.
  • Manage peer-review manuscript materials and submission processes.
  • Provide organizational support, logistical support, and presentation material preparation for regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Provide study updates at relevant internal/external meetings.
  • Provide logistical support of specific tasks related to research teams.
  • Assist with the development of internal and external monitoring plans to assure compliance to regulatory and project requirements to ensure deliverables are successfully achieved.
  • Assist with the development of corrective action plans, and for any identified areas of non-compliance, coordinate plan implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with all human subject protection and privacy regulations including data management.
  • Generate, edit, and review study-specific documents required for research implementation and conduct.
  • Review proposals for grant submissions and/or funding continuation from sponsors.
  • Administrative duties may include: submitting expense reports, timekeeping, coordinating meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Project/system process lifecycle experience.
  • Understanding of translational health, medical science research, and health communications. Event planning and patient recruiting experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently to achieve project goals. Must be able to multi task.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, with demonstrated ability to set priorities and goals with adherence to project timelines.
  • Evidence of strong operational skills with attention to detail.
  • Evidence of exceptional writing / editing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a broad array of constituents with a diverse community. Ability to manage relationships with groups of stakeholders to achieve project goals
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, RedHat, and Qualtrics desired.
  • Ability to work with a multidisciplinary group of scientists in a dynamic team environment and to tackle multiple projects simultaneously.
