About the Division

The University Corporation is a non-profit auxiliary corporation providing commercial and administrative services to California State University, Northridge. Major Duties

Under general supervision, the Research Assistant is responsible for a variety of duties relating to Geographical Information Systems (GIS); these duties include creating maps, editing and creating data, performing basic spatial analysis, and assisting with the training and supervising of interns working in the Center for Geographical Studies.


Equivalent to BA/BS in Geography, Urban Planning, Geology, Biology, or related subject with concentration in GIS or GIS Certificate; AND demonstrate skills in data acquisition, creation, management, and analysis; OR significant amount of GIS coursework (Intro and Intermediate GIS); with at least six months of related work experience (e.g. GIS Internship).

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

In depth knowledge of ArcGIS 9.3 and/or 10.x and MS Office products; Comprehensive understanding of fundamental concepts related to GIS (map projections, raster and vector data formats, database design, relational database concepts, etc.; ability to research various subjects and communicate findings; ability to communicate questions and instructions clearly both verbally and in writing; preference given to applicants who have related internship or on-the-job experience.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

This position is employed through The University Corporation (TUC).
The anticipated hiring range: $12-$21, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
