Job Description

Job Summary:

Responsible for field data collection and outdoor traffic surveys.  This is an entry level position that initially involves full-time data collection, with opportunities to grow in other areas in a research program focused on driver behavior.  Continued employment in this position is contingent upon availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

Essential Duties:

  • Assists in the coordination and implementation of data collection in support of research projects including extensive travel, requiring an ability to observe and record vehicle occupant behavior. 70%

  • Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research and keeps detailed records of data.   10%

  • Uses computers to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research results. 5%

  • Evaluates and summarizes results. 5%

  • Assists in preparing and writing proposals to funding agencies; maintains financial accounts related to research projects. 3%

  • Assists undergraduate and/or graduate students and other technical or field staff involved in research. 3%

  • Assists with reports, invoices, and cataloging records. 3%

  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 1%

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health, liberal arts, education or other related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience (HS diploma + 4 YOE)

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to observe moving traffic and collect data on driver and occupant behavior

  • Extensive travel throughout Texas required

  • Must be available some weekends for travel/data collection

  • Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in field data collection

  • Background in a traffic safety or social science related field.

  • Bachelor's degree in social science
