Job Description

Job Summary:

This position requires an advanced level of knowledge in electronics, network configuration, border traffic data collection and require consistent use of discretion and judgment. Assist with proposal preparation for funding agencies, operation of research equipment, supervision of graduate students and other lab/field personnel in research. The incumbent will analyze and recommend hardware and software improvements to existing systems, develop, and implement equipment testing procedures and system monitoring software, and analyze equipment specifications and assist in procurement as well as coordinate with local officials during equipment installation and maintenance throughout the border in the US and Mexico. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

Essential Duties:

  • Set up, test, and operate traffic reading equipment using RFID, WIFI and Bluetooth technologies along the US-Mexico border 20%

  • Perform remote and onsite maintenance to various reading stations. 50%

  • Assistance with the design, plan, conduct and coordination of experiments in support of various research projects. 10%

  • Use computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation 10%

  • Other duties as assigned. 10%

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • No prior experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment.

  • Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in both specified languages.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using English and Spanish languages in a professional capacity is preferred.
