The CHANGE (Challenging Health inequity in Adolescents & Nurturing Global Empowerment) lab at Texas A&M University is accepting applications for a Research Assistant position. Our lab is within the Clinical Psychology area and Diversity Science research theme of the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. The CHANGE lab conducts community-driven research aimed at promoting the health and well-being of adolescents, young adults, and their families. We evaluate multilevel risk and protective factors related to health disparities in minoritized populations and develop culturally responsive and strengths-based interventions to promote health, wellness, and self-empowerment. Our approach considers the intersection of multicultural identities (including race, ethnicity, gender, class, size, and sexual orientation) and is primarily guided by Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) principles, syndemic theory, and the socioecological framework. Under the supervision of Dr. Idia Thurston, Associate Professor of Psychology and Public Health, the full-time research assistant will provide support for the coordination of research studies and lab activities. The research assistant will perform skilled, administrative, and managerial support in research and plan and direct certain phases in a research project. Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology or related field
  • One or more years of experience of research in psychology
  • One of more years of management experience

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively communicate with undergraduate research assistants, graduate students, and faculty supervisor
  • Interest in supporting research related to health equity and diversity 
  • Basic SPSS knowledge and skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and Google Apps effectively
  • Ability to use Twitter and other social media sites

Responsibilities:

  • Interviewing, coordinating, and managing undergraduate research assistants
  • Helping with project management for principal investigator and graduate students
  • Writing, editing, and submitting manuscripts and grants
  • Submitting IRB applications
  • Purchasing and other duties as assigned
