What we want

The Department of Neuroscience & Experimental Therapeutics seeks a Research Assistant to join Dr. Samba Reddy's team. The job involves planning, conducting, and coordinating experiments to support research projects, particularly focusing on exploring the cellular and molecular mechanisms of CDK8 in regulating lipid metabolism. This includes designing experiments, collecting data, and evaluating standard research techniques while maintaining detailed records. Additionally, writing tasks involve preparing proposals for funding agencies and summarizing results for scientific publications. Supervision of undergraduate and/or graduate students is also part of the role.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate Bachelor’s or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

  • Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment

Preferred Qualification

  • MS Degree

  • Research experience in molecular biology and Drosophila genetics

  • Experience in immunostaining and confocal imaging

  • Ability to, effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks

Responsibilities:

  • Planning and performing Experiments - Data Collection. Design, plan, conduct and coordinate experiments in support of various research projects. Carrying out some experiments to explore the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms of CDK8 in regulating lipid metabolism. Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques of routine research; keep detailed records of data.

  • Writing - Prepare and write proposals to funding agencies; maintain financial accounts related to research projects. Summarize results for inclusion in scientific, and clientele-oriented publications.

  • Supervision - Supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students.
