What we want

The Farhy Lab studies the molecular mechanisms of astrocyte-neuron communication during synapse development. The research assistant will contribute to this goal by conducting research experiments, overseeing main lab operations, assisting with animal care, reagent preparation, and assisting in the training of students on lab techniques. Required Education:

• Appropriate Bachelor's or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Mouse and rat colony management
• Dissection aseptic techniques
• Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biomedical sciences, or Neuroscience
• Working with rodents, animal husbandry, and dissections
• Experience with cell culture maintenance, biochemistry and molecular biology techniques (such as western blot)

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience working with HEK293 cell line
• Experience with the dissection of rodents

Responsibilities:

• Research Experiments - Executing research experiments and analyzing results.

• Lab Duties - General laboratory duties such as purchasing supplies, maintaining mouse and rat colonies, research equipment maintenance, maintaining a safe working environment, etc.

• Documentation - Maintaining an accurate laboratory notebook, writing manuscripts, presenting findings, and contributing to grant proposals

• Training - Training new personnel on lab procedures and perform other duties as assigned.
