The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Research Assistant to serve as a member of our laboratory team in the Center for Infectious and Inflammatory Diseases. Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment.

  • Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.

  • Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and HSC guidelines.

  • Must be literate in the English language and able to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions.

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred applicants will have significant prior experience with laboratory research, specifically with molecular biology and biochemistry, cloning of genes, protein expression in bacterial cells, and protein purification.

Essential Duties/Tasks:

  • Research Experiments - Perform a variety of routine and specialized laboratory experiments and procedures including standard molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, protein expression, and purification. Execute, complete, and summarize research results for experimental protocols.

  • Research - Designing simple research experiments, and operating and maintaining a variety of laboratory equipment including incubators/shakers, autoclaves, centrifuges, spectrophotometers, etc.

  • Laboratory - Assistance in basic operation of the lab, including preparation of media and solutions, organization of lab supplies, and maintenance of equipment.

  • Collaboration - Conduct literature searches and reviews and attend courses and lectures. Participate in weekly lab meetings within the center and other departments. Participate in joint projects involving faculty, lab personnel, and graduate students.
