What We Want

The Research Assistant will perform fly food preparation, drosophila stock maintenance, and record keeping, while following supply procurement, inventory, and safety protocols. Other duties include conducting experiments, coordinating research projects, operating research equipment, performing data analysis, and contributing to manuscript preparation. What You Need to Know

Salary Range: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire's experience.

Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant science field or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Familiarity with routine laboratory procedures, equipment and safety regulations

• Ability to accurately follow protocols

• Familiarity with using a computer

• Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Extensive experience in supporting scientific research for more than 10 years

• Experience with general biochemistry and/or molecular biology

• Experience with Drosophila or other genetic model organism husbandry and genetics

• Relevant experience in supporting scientific research in a research laboratory setting.

Responsibilities:

• Drosophila (Fruit Fly) Husbandry: Performing fly food preparation, stock maintenance and record keeping.

• Research Experiments: Executing research experiments and analyzing results.

• Training: Training new personnel on lab procedures and safety regulations.

• Lab Duties: General laboratory duties such as purchasing supplies, model organism maintenance, research equipment maintenance, and maintaining a safe working environment.

• Documentation/Publishing: Maintaining an accurate laboratory notebook, writing manuscripts, presenting findings, and contributing to grant proposals and performs other duties as assigned.
