Job Description

Job Summary:

This Research Assistant will perform scientific research. The worker will have opportunities to be a co-author on research publications and get hands-on experience on state-of-the-art biophysical tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop recombinant DNA, design primers, perform PCR, DNA purification and transformation, molecular cloning, generating bacterial strains and plasmids, and interpreting sequencing information

  • Prepare laboratory solutions and culture media under sterile conditions, and organize chemicals/reagents/common stocks

  • Help with lab purchases and lab equipment maintenance, glassware washing, disposing biohazards, autoclaving, testing eyewash stations and maintaining safety protocols

  • Train and oversee undergraduates and student workers as needed and perform other job-related duties as required

  • Strictly adhere to BSL2 and COVID-19 safety protocols required by the University

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Education:

  • Master's in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics or closely related field

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in molecular biology techniques (primer design, PCR, cloning, etc.

  • Experience working with immune cells or mammalian cells is a plus
