The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a part-time Research Assistant to serve as a member of the Neuroscience & Experimental Therapeutics department in the Reddy lab team. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. Job Description Summary:The research assistant is responsible for assisting senior research staff in the lab in advancing neurological research techniques, studies, data analysis related to experimental epilepsy and brain paradigms. The person will help performing technical experiments relevant to EEG and histology studies, and help coordinating lab compliance and materials for research projects. 

Required Education:

• Appropriate bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in biological or biomedical sciences or neuroscience.

Preferred Experience:

• Working experience in a pharmacology or brain research lab; knowledge of advanced brain signal software; experimental neural techniques and analysis; behavioral studies and interpretation; brain and histology knowledge; preclinical pharmacological studies and data compilation experience in a research lab. 
• Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to help senior researchers with brain paradigms and data collection. 
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret EEG recording and behavior tests.
• Ability to organize, conduct and report pharmacological studies and experiments.
• Experience working with EEG studies, data compilation and analysis.
• Ability to read temporo-spatial progression of seizures, and behavioral patterns.
• Ability to help research staff with advancing experimental studies and support with the neural techniques.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment.
• Ensure attention to detail.

Job Responsibilities

Experimental brain research

• Assist and conduct brain research with pharmacological methods and techniques, carrying out procedures, and recording results in the lab.

• Assists and performs experiments procedures involving brain disease models.

• Assist and perform experiments procedures involving behavior and signal recording.

• Assists with neuroscience electrophysiological analysis studies.

• Assists with performing technical operations relevant to pharmacology and PK studies.

Data analysis and records 

• Prepare database of neural observations and EEG recording.

• Assist and edit for scientific manuscripts.

• Coordinate work progress with campus and external collaborators.  

General lab management

• Coordinate lab compliance and materials for research projects. 

• Order and maintain scientific supplies and equipment.

• Prepare and maintain lab records and inventories.

Other Duties

• Performs other duties as assigned.
