The Department of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics (NEXT) is looking for a Research Assistant to serve as a member of the Sohrabj iLab. Job Description Summary: This is to announce a job opening for the position of Research Assistant in the Texas A&M University Department of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics, available beginning January 2021. This position is being created to assist our ongoing research projects. The successful candidate will join a research lab focused on understanding the pathophysiology of stroke using whole animal and tissue culture approaches. Major techniques of the laboratory include in vivo studies, rodent surgeries and behavioral analysis, primary cell isolation and culture, histology, bioinformatics. The ideal candidate is a recent graduate, with a major in a Biology/Zoology/Neuroscience minor. Candidates with experience in animal handling (rats) for behavioral assays and recovery surgery are preferred. The selected candidate should have either completed the animal handling workshop or be prepared to take this workshop.
Required Education:
- Appropriate Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
- Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and have excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
- Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.
Preferred Education:
- Bachelor’s with major or minor in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology, or related field
Preferred Experience:
- Small animal handling and bench research skills
Job Responsibilities
- Assisting with behavioral studies and surgeries using rats.
- Literature searches, data analyses
- Ordering lab supplies, maintenance of lab equipment and certifications, assist with compliance reviews
- Performs other duties as assigned.
