The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Research Assistant to serve as a member of the Psychiatry and Behavioral Science team. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. Required Education:

  • Appropriate bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment.
  • Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.
  • Ability to work independently once given a project.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet.
  • Basic knowledge of working with rodents in a laboratory setting.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.


Preferred Education:

  • BA, BS or Masters in neuroscience, neurobiology, behavioral sciences.


Preferred Experience:

  • At least 2 years' relevant professional experience including at least 1 year experience working with rodents in behavioral neuroscience.
  • Experience performing survival surgeries.
  • Experience performing administrative and managerial support in research laboratory.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.


Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expertise conducting rodent behavioral experiments.
  • Ability to analyze rodent experiment behavioral data.


Job Responsibilities

Research

  • Supports laboratory members with research projects.
  • Assists in the design, planning, and coordinating of experiments in support of various research projects.
  • Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research and keeps detailed records of data.
  • Assists in preparing and writing proposals to funding agencies; maintains financial accounts related to research projects.
  • Assists undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research.


Data analysis

  • Analysis of research data. Uses computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results.
  • Evaluates and summarizes results.


Laboratory administration

  • Maintains laboratory up to university code. Installs, operates, maintains, and/or repairs research equipment.
  • Assists with reports, invoices, and cataloging records.


Other Duties

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
