The Department of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics (NEXT) is looking for a part-time Research Assistant to serve as a member of the Reddy Lab. Job Description Summary The Research Assistant is responsible for helping and carrying out experimental studies and data analytics in the research lab, including brain disease models and behavioral patterns. The person is responsible to assist senior research staff with advancing experimental studies and support with the neural techniques. This position is a temporary, non-benefits eligible position that will work 19.5 hours per week or fewer.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological or biomedical sciences or neuroscience.

Preferred Experience:

  • Working experience in a pharmacology or brain research lab; knowledge of advanced brain signal software; experimental neural techniques and analysis; behavioral studies and interpretation; brain and histology knowledge; preclinical pharmacological studies and data compilation experience in a research lab.   
  • Experience working with EEG studies, data compilation and analysis.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to help senior researchers with brain paradigms and data collection.  
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret EEG recording and behavior tests.
  • Ability to organize, conduct and report pharmacological studies and experiments.
  • Ability to read temporo-spatial progression of seizures, and behavioral patterns.
  • Ability to help research staff with advancing experimental studies and support with the neural techniques.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist and conduct brain research with pharmacological methods and techniques, carrying out procedures, and recording results in the lab.
  • Assist and performs experiments procedures involving brain disease models.
  • Assist and perform experiments procedures involving behavior and signal recording. Assists with neuroscience electrophysiological analysis studies.
  • Assist with performing technical operations relevant to pharmacology and PK studies.
  • Prepare database of neural observations and EEG recording. Assist and edit for scientific manuscripts.
  • Coordinate work progress with campus and external collaborators.  
  • Coordinate lab compliance and materials for research projects.  
  • Order and maintain scientific supplies and equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain lab records and inventories.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
