The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Research Assistant to serve as a member of the Biomedical Sciences, School of Dentistry. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. The successful applicant will bring their lab experience in a biological laboratory and experience working in scientific laboratory using molecular biological techniques. This person must be professional, enjoy working in a high-volume environment and be able to apply strong organizational skills while being flexible in their daily routine. Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experienc

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to learn and understand research principles, techniques, and communicate with all levels of personnel

  • Have basic computer skills

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Other Requirements or Other Factors

  • Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and HSC guidelines

  • Provide a safe environment that fosters respect, inclusion and equality of all faculty, staff, students and visitors

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with major in biology or chemistry

  • Experience working in scientific laboratory using molecular biological techniques and experience with animal experiments

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in Excel, Word and Photoshop



Responsibilities:

Animal Surgery and Animal Management

  • Perform surgical procedures with animals

  • Perform behavioral experiments with animals (primarily rodents)

  • Attend to the care of the animals

Lab Maintenance

  • Make solutions

  • Clean glassware

  • Maintain laboratory notebook

  • Conduct data mining

 

Microscopy

  • Wide field and confocal

Immunohistochemistry

  • H&E Staining

Sectioning

  • Cut frozen and/or paraffin sections

Data Analysis

  • Evaluates and summarizes results of all experiments

  • Uses computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results

  • Evaluates and summarizes results
