Who we are

The Tse laboratory seeks to understand viral pathogenesis and transmission (zoonotic, enzootic and pandemic) at the molecular level to ultimately develop new guidelines, vaccines, and antivirals for public health measures. On the other hand, we also focus on engineering pathogenic viruses into harmless nanoparticles for medical use in gene therapy and vaccine development. In the Tse lab, we study both Biosafety level 2 and 3 (BSL-2/3) pathogens such as flaviviruses and coronaviruses. 

Job description

We are looking for both entry level Research Assistant positions in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. The lab is in the state-of-the-art Edward A. Doisy Research Center. Positions are available immediately. Successful candidates are expected to have a bachelor’s degree or greater in molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or related fields. High motivation, willingness to learn, ability to follow instructions and work as a team is a must. Previous research experience is preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

Routine biological techniques for the position:

1. Execute molecular cloning

2. Maintain mammalian tissue culture

3. Light microscopy

4. Molecular biology and biochemistry, western blot and immuno-staining

5. Maintenance of common lab supplies including buffers and competent cells

6. Order and replenish lab reagents and maintenance of lab equipment

Skills required for the position:

1. Team work

2. Good analytical skills

3. Good organizational skills

4. Basic usage of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint or equivalent software

5. Manage Lab social media accounts, Twitter and website
