Position Summary
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented research assistant to join our lab, which focuses on developing and testing novel alpha-emitter radiopharmaceuticals for the treatment of cancer and elucidating their secondary effects on the tumor microenvironment. Alpha-emitter radiopharmaceutical therapy (α-RPT) is an emerging and promising modality that uses molecules labeled with alpha-emitting radionuclides to selectively target and destroy cancer cells. Our lab conducts both in vitro and in vivo studies to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and mechanisms of action of α-RPT agents.
Assists with research study, experiments, preparation of material, and documentation.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conducts research experiments and assays.
  • Performs cell culture, molecular biology, and biochemical assays to assess the effects of α-RPT and immuno-oncology agents on cancer cells and normal tissues.
  • Performs small animal studies.
  • Collects and processes biological samples from mice for histological, immunohistochemical, and biodistribution analysis.
  • Co-manages mouse colony.
  • Evaluates research results, reports findings and discusses project outcomes with staff involved. Presents research findings at lab meetings.
  • Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
  • Coordinates tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment such as gamma counters, microscopes, and spectrophotometers.
  • Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Coordinates research project with other institutions and investigators.
  • Participates in developing hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
  • Assists with general supply/equipment orders, lab maintenance and cleaning.
  • Performs literature research on specified topics.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Works in laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in biology, chemistry, physics, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a research laboratory, preferably in the field of radiopharmaceuticals, nuclear medicine, oncology, or immunology.
  • Knowledge of basic principles and techniques of radiochemistry, radiobiology, and radiation safety.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, GraphPad Prism, and other relevant software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • A strong interest and curiosity in α-RPT and immuno-oncology research.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of experience in laboratory operations or equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 6 years.

Salary Range
$16.76 - $28.51 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
