The Opportunity

The Florida Space Institute (FSI) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for multiple full-time, 12-month, non-tenure earning research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor positions to carry out research in the fields of space, heliophysics, planetary, atmospheric sciences, as well as astronomy and astrophysics. The successful candidate will be expected to carry a dynamic, externally funded, and internationally recognized research program that addresses scientific questions of significance in their field; collaborate with other researchers and faculty at FSI and UCF; provide high quality student and postdoctoral supervision and mentorship; and promote equity and inclusion in the team. We are seeking candidates whose experience in research, mentoring, or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence.

FSI is a multi-disciplinary center for space-related activities aimed at facilitating and conducting leading-edge research in astrophysics, heliophysics, planetary, space and atmospheric sciences, and committed to supporting space education programs. We are looking to expand our group of researchers on our way to becoming a premier institution in space sciences and education.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. from an accredited institution in physics, astronomy, astrophysics, planetary sciences, or a related field is required.

  • Consistent record of competitively funded space research and/or experimentation grants and contracts.

  • Demonstrated research leadership ability and interpersonal skills.

  • Years of experience in a similar position:

    • Assistant professor: Three (3) years.

    • Associate professor: Five  (5) years.

    • Professor: Seven (7) years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience performing research tasks:

    • Assistant professor: Four (4) years.

    • Associate professor: Six (6) years.

    • Professor: Eight (8) years.

  • Solid track record of publications.

  • Award management experience.

  • Proficiency in English.
