Position Details:


Summary:

The candidate selected for this position will contribute to our established research strength on advancing health equity with a specific interest in mental health services and focus on underserved populations (e.g., racially and ethnically diverse populations). The ideal candidate will bring experience in and a passion for health equity as well as community engagement. They will also be expected to develop a research program that will complement existing research in the delivery or implementation of mental health services.

The role will include training clinicians in Washington State’s network of coordinated specialty care programs – New Journeys, community outreach and education, assist with the development of the New Journeys peer community, and develop a program of research that would improve the mental health services in WA. The faculty member will work closely with the Center of Excellence in Early Psychosis, faculty from the University of Washington, and the Washington State Healthcare Authority.

It's anticipated that the specific responsibilities will be tailored to the faculty member’s interest and abilities. The faculty member will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in the coordination of ongoing research projects surrounding early intervention services for psychosis.
  • Using existing data to develop research questions related to mental health services and inequities in care
  • Conducting studies using qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods, and perform data analyses.
  • Publishing key results or findings in peer-reviewed mental health journals.
  • Supervising research staff.
  • Applying for extramural research funding. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

65% Research

  • Assist in the coordination of ongoing research projects and preparation of progress reports.
  • Prepare articles for publication.
  • Assist with and lead the development of posters and presentations for disseminating study findings.
  • Assist the PI, as well as other collaborating investigators, with scientific development, data analyses, and grant writing.

10% Data Management and Reporting

  • Gather and input study data into database systems. Ensure accuracy in the recording of all data and work with research sites to ensure data integrity.
  • Review and assess study data to ensure adherence to study protocol. Collaborate with PI if protocols are not being met.
  • Ensure data security and confidentiality.  

20% Professional Development

  • Participate in didactic training opportunities at WSU.
  • Apply for extramural research funding.
  • Take steps to become an independent investigator/faculty member.

5% Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • An doctoral degree in an appropriate field such as public health, psychology, social work, sociology, medicine, or a related field and relevant experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience authoring professional presentations or peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience preparing technical reports and manuscripts.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills, ability to work independently, and ability to take appropriate autonomous initiative to carry out study related functions.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding ethics and confidentiality in dealing with scientific data and results.
  • Aptitude for academic rigor using qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products (e.g., SharePoint, Powerpoint).
  • Demonstrable experience developing, managing, or maintaining research databases (e.g., REDCap).
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends on occasion to meet the needs of the project, including scheduling participant visits and contacts, as well as meeting project deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting mental health services and community-based participatory research. Excellent scientific writing and oral expression skills.
  • Excellent scientific writing and oral expression skills.
  • Experience analyzing scientific data using Stata, R, SPSS, NVivo, or Atlas.ti.
  • Experience managing research studies.
  • Experience with online surveys or databases.
  • Experience preparing reports to NIH and IRBs
