Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients.

 

A full time Research Assistant position is available in the laboratory of Yvonne Ulrich-Lai, PhD in the Department of Pharmacology & Systems Physiology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The Ulrich-Lai lab research program is focused on understanding the interactions among diet, obesity, and stress. This staff position is filling a crucial role in which the duties will consist of, but are not limited to, designing, performing, and analyzing experiments that investigate food intake, nutrient metabolism, and obesity, as well as behavioral and physiological responses to stress.

 


Essential Functions
  • Perform experiments and records data according to research protocols.
  • Interpret data and assist in judging validity of data. May perform statistical and graphical analysis of data.
  • May assist in animal colony management and animal husbandry.
  • Apply research principals for less complex assignments.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Experience with the following laboratory procedures/techniques: Histology, immunohistochemistry, RNAscope, neuroanatomy, microscopy; Small animal handling, measurement of feeding behavior and metabolism in small animals, measurement of behavioral and physiological stress responses in small animals, small animal stereotaxic brain surgeries; ELISAs, western blots, qRT-PCR, and radioimmunoassays.   
  • Working knowledge of software applications (word processing, spreadsheet, statistics, and graphing).
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, strong organizational skills, good communication skills, good teamwork, and supervisory ability.

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
