Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Assistant, Per Diem for the Department of Medical Oncology at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Per Diem Research Assistant will support all aspects of research efforts in a study of brain tumors, including biospecimen collection, maintaining databases, utilizing three-dimensional (3D) culture techniques to maintain patient derived cells, while also performing mouse mating and colony maintenance, and PCR genotyping experiments to generate genetically engineered mouse models, and monitoring progress toward achieving the study goals.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Conducts a continuous program of research and development regarding genetically engineered mouse model maintenance, constantly evaluates existing procedures where required to keep methodology and procedures, collection of data, and preparation of reports current.
  • Generates, compiles, and presents statistical data with appropriate conclusions, recommendations, etc. pertinent to research activity.
  • Attends regular team meetings to assist in the design of experiments and will provide support with general laboratory maintenance.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelors’ Degree in Health-Related science or health/clinical background.
  • One or more years of field experience in maintaining genetically engineered mouse models.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Candidate must be highly motivated, have excellent oral and written communication skills; must be a team player; must be highly attentive to detail and very organized.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
