Position Overview
A research assistant position is available to work in the Neuromuscular Physiology of Movement Laboratory under the supervision of Professor Sandra Hunter. The research assistant will aid with experiments and laboratory activities involving human participants with older adults and other clinical populations. The research assistant will aid in research participant testing and assessments, exercise training studies, data collection and perform data and statistical analysis.

The position is for individuals who are highly motivated, organized, and able to work independently and as an integral part of our larger research team. Dr. Hunter’s laboratory is part of a diverse, collegial, and highly interactive group of research laboratories in the Exercise Science program, Department of Physical Therapy at Marquette University. Duties and Responsibilities
| The major responsibilities of the successful applicant will be to help manage scientific data collection and output of experimental research studies on understanding the response of young, older and clinical populations to exercise. The research assistant will be in regular communication with Dr Hunter and oversee onboarding of student researchers, standard operation procedures and safety protocols. The research assistant will be responsible for participant assessment during experimental studies, data collection, data integrity, data management and statistical analysis. The research assistant will aid in research participant screening, assessments of their physical function, and collection of questionnaire and activity data alongside team members in the laboratory. They will also perform data processing, statistical analysis, and visualizations on collected research data. Additionally, they will aid in exercise interventions with the other research personnel to help ensure participant safety during the training.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology/Science, Kinesiology, Human Movement, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation
A minimum of one year experience in one of the following or a related field: Exercise Physiology/Science, Kinesiology, Human Movement, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation.
Experience with measurement and analysis of strength, torque, electromyography, and using dynamometers and exercise training of older adults.
Experience or willingness to learn website management.
Must be willing to work flexible hours as necessary.
The successful candidate will be expected to exhibit individual initiative and work independently, but also be able to work well in a team.
Must possess strong communication and organizational skills, have thorough knowledge of exercise-based studies/procedures, be technically proficient and accurate with data collection and record keeping, and effectively communicate in both written reports and presentations.
Fluency in the English language is essential along with strong communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology/Science, Kinesiology, Human Movement, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation preferred.
Experience working with older people and those with diabetes and exercise training is preferred.
