Position Overview
A research assistant position is available to work in the Neuromuscular Physiology of Movement Laboratory under the supervision of Professor Sandra Hunter. The research assistant will aid with experiments and laboratory activities involving human participants with older adults and other clinical populations. The research assistant will aid in research participant testing and assessments, exercise training studies, data collection and perform data and statistical analysis.
The position is for individuals who are highly motivated, organized, and able to work independently and as an integral part of our larger research team. Dr. Hunter’s laboratory is part of a diverse, collegial, and highly interactive group of research laboratories in the Exercise Science program, Department of Physical Therapy at Marquette University. Duties and Responsibilities
1. Help manage and coordinate scientific research studies on the mechanisms of whole limb fatigue and exercise-training of older people and with diabetes by organizing research participant recruitment, screening and scheduling, and aid with assessments of their physical function, and collection of questionnaire and activity data.
2. Assist with all experimental studies and exercise training
3. Aid student researchers, standard operation procedures and safety protocols, and research regulatory documents
4. Assist with budgetary responsibilities, ordering and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies
5. Perform data entry, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment as needed
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise or Health Science related field.
A minimum of 1 year of related experience.
Must be willing to work flexible hours as required.
Must be able to work independently, communicate effectively and sensitively with the public including persons with spinal cord injury (SCI), and ensure compliance with study, safety, and IRB procedures.
