What we want

The Research Assistant will be part of a vibrant research team that pursues knowledge about glial cells in neuroinflammation, brain aging, and neurodegenerative diseases. Performs mouse colony husbandry, genotyping, and tissue processing and analyses. Provides general lab management, records keeping, and lab inspection preparations. provides opportunities to learn a range of lab techniques, conduct research experiments, and collaborate with other scientists.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's in Science degree in biology, biochemistry, genetics, neuroscience, or other biomedical science related fields

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General lab and computer skills and motivated to learn lab techniques

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong work ethic and organization skills

  • Ability to work under deadlines

  • Attention to details

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate in biomedical fields with prior research experience.

  • Master’s degree in neuroscience, biology, genetics, biochemistry, immunology or other biomedical science related field.

  • 1 year of research experience

  • Experience in mouse handling, breeding, genotyping, and immunohistochemical.

  • Experience in laboratory maintenance and management.

Responsibilities:

  • Research: Performs animal dissection, tissue preparation, tissue cryosectioning, immunohistochemistry and fluorescence microscopy. Participates in various experiments using a wide range of lab techniques to investigate neuroinflammation and cell injury and repair relevant to demyelinating and neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease. Assists in primary cell culture preparations Conducts bench experiments, collect research data, and evaluate results.

  • Mouse Colony Management: Performs mouse husbandry, genotyping, and colony recording and book-keeping. Assists in vivo animal experiments

  • Lab Management and Undergraduate Student Training: Performs general lab and equipment management, book-keeping, ordering and receiving, lab inspection coordination, and training and coordination of undergraduate research assistants. Reports and presents data.
