Job Summary
The Research Assistant will work with faculty and other researchers to scope and describe the high throughput screening projects. The individual in this role will operate robotic equipment and perform high throughput screening, analyze and summarize data generated and present oral and written reports of experimental progress and results.
For these studies to be successful, the instruments employed must be properly maintained and calibrated, so this will be a constant requirement for the position. Other responsibilities include inventory and bookkeeping of chemical compounds (libraries) and general supplies, maintenance of lab equipment, maintenance of a sterile biosafety cabinet and treatment of biowaste, and ordering general lab supplies.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, or life sciences
- One (1) year of hands-on experience in a biology, biochemistry, or chemistry lab
- Experience with cell culture and cellular assay as well as biochemical assays
- Experience with tracking and handling large collections of chemical compounds and data entry to the database
- Experience with providing research services to customers, operating robotic instruments, and troubleshooting experiments
- Experience providing written text to describe experiments, results, and protocols
- Ability to prepare written project reports for customers
- Basic knowledge and experimental skills in biology
- The ability to learn to use various robotic equipment is essential
- Ability to carry out cellular and biochemistry experiments independently
- Basic skills in communication, word processing, and data entry and the ability to run common computer application
- Working familiarity with Office software, especially Excel
Preferred:
- Aptitude with database entry and searching
