Research Assistant in Philosophy

Job Summary:

Professor Marjolein Oele in the Philosophy department is looking to hire a research assistant for approximately 5 hours per week starting in the Fall 22 semester.

Full Job Description:

Main Responsibilities

1. Editorial work + copy-editing: proofread manuscripts, offer editorial comments, prepare manuscripts for submission to journals and publishers.

2. Assemble and compose a bibliography and index for a book project

3. Offer critical and supportive feedback on manuscripts in the making, including comments regarding style and content. 

4. Assist with writing book reviews of recently published literature. 

5. Research materials and acquire and return articles and books through the library system. 

6. General office support: filing, photocopying, scanning, printing, etc. 

Skills to be acquired by the student research assistant:

1. Improve skills in textual analysis and editing

2. Improve skills in both verbal and written communication

3. Improve critical thinking skills

4. Improve investigative and research skills

Qualifications:

 -Ideally be enrolled in the Major or Minor in Philosophy program. 

- Self-motivated and able to work independently

- Excellent written and oral communication skills

- Interest in editorial work 

- Detail-oriented (especially careful eye for text-proofing)

- Flexible and enjoy working with people

- Available for Fall 2022 and ideally Spring 2023 as well.
