Position Description:

The Center for Predictive Medicine seeks a Research Assistant III to support the principal investigator in a laboratory conducting research on drug discovery and basic scientific studies for viral diseases. The main responsibilities will be to participate in the design, execution, and analysis of laboratory research studies and develop protocols and procedures. The position requires strong biochemistry skills including protein expression and biochemical enzyme reaction, attention to detail, strong interpersonal and time management skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct biochemical assays for viral helicases using plate readers or gel-based assays.
  • Conduct various cell biology and molecular biology techniques such as PCR, real-time PCR, RNA isolation, and primary cell cultures.
  • Conduct compounds evaluation in various biochemical assays and generate reports.
  • Conduct protein expression in E. coli, and mammalian cells and purify for characterization.
  • Participate in new experimental procedures and designs.
  • Prepare materials and equipment necessary for laboratory experiments.
  • Perform data entry and analysis.
  • Participate in the planning and development of general goals for the research project.
  • May instruct lab personnel in special experimental procedures.
  • Support sample collection and processing.
  • Provide oversight of lab equipment.
  • Manage lab supplies.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in RNA based assays.
  • Experience in protein expression.
  • Experience in fluorescence-based assay and optimization for high-throughput screen.
  • Consistent work performance.
  • Effective use of plate readers and its software (Microsoft Office, Adobe, etc.).
  • Experience in aseptic techniques and biological experiments.
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
