Position Summary

The Sundin Laboratory at Michigan State University is seeking a highly motivated individual to lead/support research efforts in molecular host-pathogen interactions focused on bacterial plant pathogens.  This is an in-person position located on campus. The position is primarily focused on research efforts with responsibilities in writing research publications and contributing to external grant applications. Additional responsibilities include providing research support to undergraduate/graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and other lab personnel.


Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or related science field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in overseeing research projects and laboratory operations, operating and maintaining a variety of laboratory equipment, performing specialized and difficult analytical and research techniques, and designing research experiments in an area related to research being performed; may require software specific to the area of research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position may require special licensing or certification in the field related to the area of employment.


Desired Qualifications

Advanced Degree in Plant Pathology or related discipline 

Laboratory experience in:

  • molecular biology and bioinformatics,
  • DNA Cloning,
  • PCR
  • Quantitative PCR
  • reverse transcriptase,
  • DNA and RNA insolation
  • transcriptomics, genomics, in planta inoculation
