Job Summary
The Language Interaction and Language Acquisition in Children (LILAC) Laboratory in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at the University of Texas at Dallas seeks a motivated research staff.
The research assistant will work with the principal investigator, Dr. Pumpki Lei Su (https://bbs.utdallas.edu/faculty/detail.php?i=2082 ), to set up the new laboratory and launch several research projects related to children with autism and bilingual children. Dr. Su’s research combines observational (all-day recording), behavioral (language assessment, language sample analysis), and experimental methods (eye-tracking) to understand how children with different language experiences acquire language.
This Research Assistant I position conducts research activities according to research protocol and provides technical support for the lab. They will be responsible for the documentation and maintenance of lab equipment procedures. The position requires a 1-year commitment with the possibility of renewal for subsequent years. This would be an excellent position for recent college graduates interested in gaining research training and mentoring before pursuing graduate studies in speech-language pathology (speech and hearing sciences), psychology, special education, or a related field.
Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in one of the basic sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience in customer service or in daily interactions in a public services environment.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bilingual fluent in Spanish and English or in English and Mandarin is preferred
  • Previous experience working or volunteering in a research laboratory.
  • Experience working with young children and their family.
  • Strong technical and computer skills or an interest in expanding programming skills (e.g., R or Python).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Be actively involved in all aspects of the research process
  • Setting up equipment, recruiting and scheduling participants
  • Designing and creating experimental stimuli
  • Collecting data with young children and their families
  • Training and supervising undergraduate research assistants
  • Submitting and renewing IRB protocols
  • Assisting with data analysis and research finding disseminating via preparing manuscript and/or conference presentations
  • Organizing outreach activities to the local community
  • Lab coordinating duties such as the documentation and maintenance of lab equipment procedures according to proper protocol
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Notice & Travel:
Work will be performed on site and in-person. This position may be subject to local travel for assessment or participant needs. Other occasional travel may occur such as for training/development, conferences, etc.
