Position Summary
  • (30%) Assists the Data Manager to oversee and review the work of data collectors and other support staff as work pertains to data collection. Provides clarification and assists with problem solving as necessary. Informs the Principal Investigator, Project Manager, and Data Manager of the day-to-day data collection activities, when any problems arise, and when clarification or deviations from protocol are needed.
  • (25%) Assists the Data Manager to schedule and facilitate all field data collection-related events and travel. Communicates effectively with daycare centers to properly plan and prepare for data collection events. Facilitates calendar of events for data collection at all sites. Reserves necessary space on campus or at project sites for scheduled events. Secures all necessary resources and staff for all data events.
  • (20%) Assists the Data Manager to manage all data according to the study’s Data Safety and Monitoring Plan. Assists key staff with preparation and analysis of all data.
  • (10%) Assists in hiring and training all field data collectors. Follows through on hiring paperwork and ensures that all staff comply with required training and prove protocol proficiency prior to entering the field.
  • (10%) Maintains a stringent inventory of all field data collection equipment. Is accountable for all data collection equipment and is responsible for maintaining the quality of all data collection equipment.
  • (5%) Assists in preparing and editing reports, articles, and manuscripts for publication. Performs relevant literature reviews as necessary.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or other related science fields; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and performing analytical and research techniques in an area related to research being performed; may require software specific to the area of research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position may require special licensing or certification in the field related to the area of employment.


Desired Qualifications
  • Will report all work progress to the Data Manager and save all electronic work on the Share Drive.
  • Will comply with all Michigan State University, College of Nursing, and Research Center policies and procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license to travel to project sites and off-campus meetings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and some statistical software such as SAS or R.
