Position Description

A new project in our laboratory at Harvard Medical School focuses on identifying the involvement of immediate early genes and their downstream targets in establishing neuronal assemblies for encoding memories, behavioral and synaptic plasticity. We are looking for a research assistant to join our team; building on our recently published findings to further enhance our understanding how gene expression programs and neuropeptide-signaling fine-tune synaptic specification and memory traces in neuronal circuits.

This position offers a great opportunity to work at the interphase of neuroscience and cell biology. In this position, you will have the opportunity to learn cutting-edge molecular biology techniques such as single cell sequencing, in addition to cell culture, imaging modalities, stereotactic brain surgeries, mouse behavior analysis.
Responsibilities of the successful candidate include (but are not limited to the following)

  • Maintain and genotype mouse models, perform perfusions, tissue dissection, tissue sectioning, RNA in-situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry
  • Use a range of molecular biology methods including RT-PCR, qPCR, molecular cloning, bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing library preparation and quality control
  • Maintain and transfect cell lines used for cell-based assays
  • Perform stereotactic brain surgeries to deliver viruses for manipulation or knock-out of genes of interest and further behavioral characterization
  • Participation in regular meetings with team members to discuss research progress and strategies Our laboratory has an excellent track record in training young scientists. This position is ideal for highly organized, motivated, and hard-working individuals seeking to launch their career as future scientists.
