Job Summary

The Wagers laboratory studies the biology and function of adult tissue-specific stem cells, particularly those stem cells that form the skeletal muscle and blood.  Current topics under investigation include regulation of stem cell function in normal tissues and under abnormal conditions such as aging and cancer, and methods for editing stem cell genomes using CRISPR/Cas9 for experimental and therapeutic purposes.  The lab is seeking highly motivated candidates to assist in ongoing experiments that include the development and application of novel CRISPR/Cas9 and adenoassociated virus (AAV) gene transfer technologies, mouse work (colony maintenance, husbandry, genotyping, physiological assessment, tissue harvest, etc.), cell culture, flow cytometry, immunostaining, and bioassays of skeletal muscle and hematopoietic cell function. The assistant will also perform a variety of basic and general lab support and clerical tasks, including ordering and stocking of supplies, maintenance of equipment and preparation and storage of shared reagents. They will also be expected to participate in and present results for regular research group meetings and to contribute to the preparation and presentation of written and oral progress reports, as needed. Work will be performed under the specific direction of the PI, research manager and/or senior lab members, although certain research-related tasks will be performed independently, within the guidelines of and subject to review by the PI and research staff.
