Job Summary

In the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, we research and teach how the collective behavior of molecules and cells forms the basis of life. We are driven by a passion for discovery and value collaborative approaches to scientific inquiry, where connections between people fuel interdisciplinary science and break boundaries across varied experimental systems. Against a backdrop of cutting edge biological research, we work as a team of educators and mentors to inspire and train the next generation of scientists and global citizens. The Whipple Lab has an opening for a full-time Research Assistant I position. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to provide comprehensive technical support for projects related to epigenetic regulation in neurons.


Position Description

  • Assist with experimental design
  • Assist with animal husbandry and mouse colony management
  • Perform experiments involving mammalian cell culture, including mouse embryonic stem cells and mouse neurons
  • Perform experiments using standard molecular cell biology techniques, including bacterial cloning, genetic engineering, flow cytometry, and high-throughput sequencing
  • Collect and record data from experiments; process, organize, and summarize data

The successful candidate will perform tasks related to ongoing research projects as well as lab managerial tasks, including maintenance and safety. 


Basic Qualifications

Background in and knowledge of biology or biological sciences.


Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • B.S. degree in biology or biological sciences strongly preferred
  • Basic knowledge of general laboratory practices and procedures is required. Two years of laboratory research experience is strongly preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required, as is the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Must be well-organized with attention to detail
  • Must be self-motivated with excellent time-management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Working Conditions

This position does not offer hybrid remote/in person work flexibility. There is an expectation that employees be able to work in person in Cambridge, MA.


Additional Information

This is a 1 year term position with possibility of extension contingent on performance and funding.

This position is based on-campus, in Massachusetts. This may include in-person during emergency situations (if applicable).
