Job Summary 

A research assistant position is available immediately to join a neuroscience group studying the neural basis of motor behavior and recovery of function and rehabilitation after Spinal Cord Injury. The lab uses a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses electrophysiological, computational, biomechanical, neuroengineering, morphological, neurochemical, and motor behavior techniques.

Essential Functions 

  • General lab maintenance (record keeping, chemical safety, ordering supplies, computer backups, surgical instrument supply replacement, lab cleanliness oversight).
  • Assisting PI and lab personnel with performing anuran and rodent surgeries, experimental data collection and behavioral procedures, motor and electrophysiology procedures, data analyses, animal care, and neuroengineering apparatus component and tool construction.
  • Perform histology, molecular biological analytic procedures.

Required Qualifications 

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or Equivalent  in Neuroscience or Engineering Degree with evidence of cross discipline skills.
  • Minimum of a year of experience.
  • Knowledge of routine histological procedures, PCR, Western Blot and laboratory procedures. Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with Matlab, and coding basics,  3D printing and fabrication. 
  • Competence with both biological and engineering data tools and data tasks.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Must be skilled in diagnostic evaluation and treatment of patients with psychiatric disorders.
  • Must be skilled in working with patient’s family members.
  • Needs to have skills in a variety of individual, family and groups, psychosocial therapies and to be current in knowledge and skill with psychopharmacological interventions. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent teaching and supervision skills.

Physical Requirements 

  • Typically sitting at a desk/table.
  • Typically standing, walking.
  • Typically bending, crouching, stooping.
  • Lifting demands<50lbs.

Additional Information 

This position is classified as Non-Exempt, grade F. Compensation for this grade ranges from $14.10 to $ 21.15 per hour. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
