Position Focus:

Working under the direction of Dr. Abigail Friedman, the Research Assistant will assist with quasi-experimental research designs to analyze policies’ effects on addictive behaviors, particularly tobacco/nicotine and cannabis use. Responsibilities include maintaining associated policy databases, executing data analyses for funded projects with senior faculty’s guidance, and generating tabular and graphical outputs.

Essential Duties include: Assist with statistical analyses in collaboration with associated faculty. Generate tables and figures to present results, assumption tests, and other output. Convert parameters into appropriate units as needed. Assist with policy database development, maintenance, and source documentation. Ensure compliance with relevant funder policies (e.g., related to data sharing). Oversee proper authorization for IRB approvals, data use agreements, and restricted data access. Secure release of information from restricted data repositories according to regulatory policy. Attend weekly team meetings to discuss team and project-related activities, issues, changes, communications, and updates. Coordinate across research team members and sites to ensure timely completion of deliverables. Follow literature on new quasi-experimental methods and assumption tests required for causal analysis. Incorporate new methods into projects where relevant.

Essential Duties

1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for research projects. 2. Interprets, synthesizes, and analyzes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Modifies and plans research experiments, procedures, tests, or survey instruments. Assists in research design. 3. Writes and edits material for publication and presentation. Reports on status of research activities. Oversees and instructs research and support staff on technical procedures, equipment operation, and laboratory maintenance. 4. Schedules and coordinates research activities. Identifies and recruits study participants. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. 5. May assist in preparing financial information and monitoring budgets. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.


Required Education and Experience

Two years of related work experience in the same job family and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.


Required Skill/Ability 1:

Proficiency with STATA.


Required Skill/Ability 2:

Experience executing quasi-experimental research designs. Capacity to stay abreast of that literature as new methods evolve.


Required Skill/Ability 3:

Communication, problem solving, and management skills needed to collaborate with and coordinate across team members at multiple sites.


Required Skill/Ability 4:

Strong attention to detail and organization.
