Job Description Summary:
The Polter lab is focused on the effects of stressful and adverse experiences on the brain, and the role of these neuroadaptations in illnesses such as mood and substance use disorders. The lab uses slice electrophysiology, rodent behavioral assays, and cutting-edge neuroscience techniques to investigate synaptic and cellular mechanisms of stress-induced alterations in the brain’s reward and affective circuitry.
This research support position contributes to research/development by assisting with experiments in a controlled laboratory setting. The core responsibilities of this position include assisting with data collection and administration of experimental procedures. This position may perform some lab maintenance duties as a secondary function. This role typically works under immediate supervision, and the primary job functions do not require exercising independent judgment.
Duties include:
  • Laboratory organization and assistance.
  • Mouse colony maintenance and husbandry.
  • Performs and supports research in the laboratory including solution preparation, stereotaxic surgeries, immunohistochemistry, and mouse behavior.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong communication skills, organizational skills, and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team are preferred.
  • Prior laboratory experience, particularly with mouse husbandry, genotyping, or behavior; stereotaxic surgery; or immunohistochemistry is desired but not required.
