Essential Functions (Job Duties)
The Urban Advocacy Corps mission is to uplift survivors, strengthen community response, and create systems change that will lead to reductions of partner abuse in Detroit.
Assume responsibility for planning and executing the supervision and coordination of duties for the Urban Advocacy Corps.
Supervise staff for all community organizing and advocacy initiatives, including determining workload and delegating assignments, scheduling, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions.
Ensure staff maintain work plans, task lists, and project timelines on a regular basis, and track progress towards achieving success indicators.
Deliver public awareness and prevention education informational sessions on intimate partner violence and intersectionality to diverse groups of community members, professionals and students.
Develop and update all program materials and communications as needed, ensuring all materials are inclusive of diversity and intersectionality, including social media accounts.
Actively participate in grant-writing activities, including conducting literature reviews, drafting proposed project activities and timelines, and evaluation sections.
Conduct a feasibility study to establish a Wayne County Prohibited Persons Relinquishment Taskforce, including: conducting literature reviews and policies on existing gun removal statutes and initiatives; facilitating the formation, and regular meetings, of a steering committee; developing and implementing data collection tools and conducting interviews; performing data analyses of primary data; and delivering summary of findings and action plans to stakeholders.
Submit project report updates, per scopes, including monthly, quarterly, and final financial reports to funding organizations.
Communicate reliably, clearly and effectively with the Center's community partners, including community leaders, local politicians, and community based organizations.
Represent Urban Advocacy Corps at events, community gatherings, workshops, and trainings (must be available some nights and weekends).
Prepare clear and concise project updates for Center leadership.
Masters degree in related field (including public health, social work, sociology, political science, public administration, demography, education, psychology, and urban studies) is required.
Prior professional experience working to end gender-based violence, particularly intimate partner abuse, is required.
At least three (3) years of work experience with domestic violence/intimate partner violence, and/or criminal justice, and/or direct-service within the metropolitan Detroit community.
Training and experience in outcomes evaluation and strategic planning and management.
Prior experience training new employees and volunteers required.
Supervision skills (particularly undergraduate and graduate students) and experience are required.
Flexible and adaptable style; a professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time.
Skilled at public speaking and ability to work with individuals of all socio-economic, racial, cultural, sexual orientation, and religious backgrounds. Strong diplomatic skills to present, answer questions and concerns effectively to groups.
Strong problem resolution, organizational, analytical, and communication (oral, written, and advanced note-taking) skills; strong capacity to collaborate and work as a team member.
Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Must be skilled in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Statistical analysis (e.g. SAS, SPSS) and GIS skills required.
