We are looking for a Research Assistant, to join our thriving department! This position is responsible for performing skilled, administrative, and managerial support in research. The successful candidate will join a research lab focused on the development and optimization of stem cell-based therapies for spinal cord injury. The primary duties of the Research Assistant will include histological assessments, animal behavioral testing and lab managerial duties. Required Education:
Appropriate Bachelor's or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Detailed understanding of immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization methodology
Other Requirements:
Infrequent lifting of 20-pounds or more
Preferred Education and Experience:
M.S. in Biology or Microbiology
Experience with in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, rodent behavioral testing, and grasshopper nerve crush models
Two years of experience working in a spinal cord injury research lab
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Detailed understanding of Catwalk gait analysis system
Responsibilities:
Perform brain and spinal cord histology and microscopy, including immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, fluorescence & confocal microscopy, and image analysis
Make media, reagents, buffers, and stock solutions
Perform behavioral assessments including motor and sensory tests in rodents
Assist in managing mouse and rat colonies, including breeding, genotyping, and recordkeeping
Maintain an accurate laboratory notebook, write manuscripts, present findings, and contribute to grant proposals
Train new personnel
Perform other duties as assigned
