Description of Work Unit

Position Summary
The research assistant will be working in the Agricultural Chemistry Laboratory at Colorado State University in support of the Periodic Table of Foods Initiative (PTFI; https://foodperiodictable.org/). Specifically, the research assistant will perform tasks including (but not limited to) sample organization, freeze-drying, homogenization, weighing, aliquoting, and labeling. All samples will be food items that will be analyzed by the PTFI. Additionally, basic cooking procedures may be required for some foods. The student researcher will need to be able to follow protocols and work independently in a shared laboratory environment.
Position Minimum Qualifications
Laboratory experience either in research or coursework. At least one year of post high school education.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication. Experience with analytical sample preparation. Experience following standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Essential Job Duties

Duty/Responsibility
Perform basic laboratory support activities related to sample extraction and preparation for analysis. This will include activities such as organization of samples, preparing and labeling vials, freeze drying, homogenization of samples, and weighing of aliquots. Record keeping in the form of a laboratory notebook will also be required. Follow standard operating procedures.
