The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Research Assistant to serve as a member of the School of Public Health Epidemiology and Biostatistics COVID Vaccine Study team. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. The successful applicant will bring an intermediate level of research experience to the position and will assist with specific study needs in a fast-paced environment. This person must be professional, enjoy working in a high-volume environment and be able to apply strong organizational skills while being flexible in their daily routine. Job Summary: The Research Assistant for the COVPN study, under general supervision, assists with the completion of the COVID Vaccine study. Assists in planning and coordinating of experiments in support of the CoVPN Study. Uses computers and laboratory or technical equipment. Assists undergraduate and /or graduate students and other staff involved in research. Installs, operates, maintains, and/or repairs equipment. Works with Project managers and study investigators to follow policies and procedures.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment.
  • Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Other Requirements or Other Factors:

  • Requires occasional weekend work.

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a health, public health, or health management field.
  • Two years of experience working on a health-related project or research
  • Experience performing study procedures, such as consent, recruitment, retention, and follow-up
  • Experience managing research records and coordinating health-related project activities
  • Experience with Health promotion and Health communications techniques
  • Experience managing a research study
  • Experience managing a research cohort
  • Experience with data collection, and/or specimen collection for research
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Work well with team.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with RedCap, Microsoft Teams
  • Knowledge or experience with project management software and budget management software
  • Health or other scientific background with knowledge on infectious diseases, vaccine preventable diseases, and vaccination strategies.

Job Responsibilities

CoVPN Study-related Activities

  • Assists in the design, planning, and coordinating of Vaccination clinics in support of the CoVPN research project.
  • Selects and applies study procedures and protocols and keeps detailed records of data in the vaccine registry
  • Uses computers and laboratory or technical equipment to track CoVPN participants.
  • Assist with plans for CoVPN participant enrollment, recruitment, and retention .
  • Evaluates and summarizes results of the CoVPN study

Research Support Activities

  • Works with Project Manager to manage project quality control and assurance.
  • Assists CoVPN Case Investigators other laboratory, technical or field staff involve
  • in the projectInstalls, operates, maintains, and/or repairs research equipment (i.e. iPads, laptops, PCs, phones).
  • Assists Project Manager with reports, invoices, and cataloging records.
  • Assists Project Manager with maintaining financial accounts related to the CoVPN research project.

Other Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
